new Scouting year!

Hi everyone. I hope you had (are having) a great summer. We are about to kick off our new Scouting year, so I just wanted to give you a preview. Our first meeting of the year will be AUG 31 at the Kula Community Center at 6:30pm. As always, I try to keep the calendar up to date at http://mauipack14.org.

Everyone please invite at least one boy to attend our first meeting. Maybe it's one of your son's friends from school, sports, church, or the neighborhood. I will make up flyers.

We will hold some recruiting drives at various schools. This may range from passing out flyers to classroom visits to presentations at back to school night. Please take a moment to let me know if you see opportunities to help arrange these at your son's school and let me know of any events on the calendar that look like good opportunities (e.g.: back to school night). I would like to hit Carden, Kula, and Waldorf at a bare minimum. If we can get into Pukalani, Montessori, and Makawao, that would be great, too.

James has agreed to take over (more like take back) much of the Cubmaster duties. I assume you all know James, but he was the Cubmaster before me. I will be focusing this year on leading the Webelos and also working on getting our committee going, and all the things that entails (membership, advancement, training, finance, fundraining). We will continue to have fun/learning programming at each Pack meeting, so it's not just announcements and awards. We really need parents to help arrange activities, especially if you know of any guest speakers. We may have each den organize a meeting, too.

We are looking into dates for a family camp this fall (Olowalu again?) and also have lots of other fun events planned (bike rodeo, Halloween & Christmas parties, spring campout, pinewood derby, etc.). The Council has a Cub-o-ree planned for Sep 03 from 8-11. More details to follow.

Lastly, if you want off this list, let me know.

I look forward to seeing everyone and to a great Scouting year!
